Include Elizabeth May in the 2015 Leaders' Debates!

Leaders' debates that exclude Elizabeth are missing an important voice for democracy. Over 80% of Canadians in a recent EKOS poll said they want Elizabeth included. Add your voice to protest!

Canadians want and deserve to hear the Green Party Leader Elizabeth challenge the other federal leaders in the Globe and Mail, Munk, and TVA debates, too.  Globe and Mail and Munk Debates need to hear from Canadians that Elizabeth is needed. Adding insult to injury, Mulcair's refusal to participate in the televised National Broadcasters’ debates is a clear attempt to shut Elizabeth May out. These are the debates that will be seen by at least 14 million Canadians from coast to coast to coast. Change.org has a petition to sign asking all leaders to participate.

"Democracy is worth fighting for" (Elizabeth May, Green Party Leader).

Elizabeth May will keep the debate on cogent issues and cut through the spin offered by the other party candidates. Her presence is essential to the dissemination of the information that is necessary for the electorate to make informed decisions.

Excluding Elizabeth May from the debates is undemocratic.

Perhaps those who oppose facing her need to be aware that by excluding Elizabeth May they may be seen as being afraid to face her in a public forum, where they can’t control her!

If we are to remain a democratic society, then all leaders of political parties need to have their voices heard in any and all public forum. Denying Elizabeth May an opportunity to speak at any debate is stating that the voices of the Canadians that voted for her do not matter, effectively destroying democracy.

“You can fool some of the people all pf the time. and you can fool all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.” You certainly cannot fool Green Party supporters any of the time.

What, exactly, are the other party leaders afraid of?

I want to hear from politicians about how we get to a sustainable future. Without Ms. May in such debates all I am going to hear are the same old soporific platitudes. Heard that before too many times now. I have grandchildren. When we have an empty government chair at the Climate Summit (in Toronto no less) and the Environment Minister electioneers in Nunavut, it’s time the citizens of this country had a bigger, stronger, and more focused voice at the table. And, Ms. May’s voice will certainly be heard despite these obstructions.
