Day 7 of the Campaign

Elizabeth May

(OTTAWA) - And on the seventh day, she rested –NOT!

Sunday August 9 I clocked my first 21 hour day of the campaign, rising at 4 AM in Thunder Bay (1AM BC time) and hitting my pillow at my adopted mom’s place on Salt Spring Island at 10 pm.

Cate and I made our way west, getting to Salt Spring in time for me to speak as the local MP at the First Annual Garlic and Music Festival.  A huge success for the local organizers and volunteer teams.  Caught up with dear friends Valdy and Bill Henderson of Chilliwack.  For me, Chilliwack’s new song “Take back this country” is the theme song of this campaign.

The official opening of the Ganges office for the campaign for my re-election was another occasion to see lots of old friends and meet new ones.  I am grateful to supporters for getting out their lawn signs so fast.  My riding is sprouting Green signs!

Day 6 of the Campaign

Elizabeth May

(OTTAWA) - Spent the day in Canada’s second Green riding – Thunder Bay-Superior North. A happy report – everywhere you look there are Green lawn signs for Bruce Hyer running for re-election.

It was my second year at Live from the Rock, a fantastic folk festival in Red Rock, on the shores of Lake Superior. I am amazed by how many people have seen – or heard about – the Maclean’s debateI had a wonderful day of listening to great music and meeting people who want to vote Green – for the first time in their lives.

Back to British Columbia early (really early!) tomorrow morning.

Day 5 of the Campaign

Elizabeth May

I am writing from a flight from Toronto to Thunder Bay where I will spend tomorrow campaigning with Green MP and Deputy Leader Bruce Hyer.  I had imagined that in this 2015 election campaign I would write a blog a day, but this week was pretty unusual.  And this is my first opportunity to blog.

We had a huge success in our last-minute call out for supporters to assemble at 6:30 Sunday AM in Sidney BC for the campaign launch.  Over two hundred people showed up!  (That’s not a crowd estimate.  We counted!)   The Green candidates who came to the launch wowed the crowd with great speeches until I could take the stage to the live media feed across Canada.  (Claire Martin, Lynne Quarmby, Glenn Sollitt, Frances Litman, Wes Regan, Lisa Barrett, Ken Melamed and Brenda Sayers – as well as Adam Olsen, BC Green interim leader and Green MLA Andrew Weaver).
