If we thought hydro-power was “clean” energy, we only have to look at the massive destruction and ecological upset of building massive dams to generate that power. So what is the alternative? Power from the sun!
I always thought that was the ultimate solution for sunny locations like the prairies, and other arid areas, but not the BC coast! However, we can generate a lot of power during the summer months (and even some during the winter) to offset a large portion of our annual electricity use. With the relatively low cost of solar panels, personal solar power is now a reality for us coastal residents.
Join us to find out more about the potential and reality of producing your own power. A representative of Viridian energy co-operative will make a short presentation, and both he and Nikki from White House Stables will be on hand to answer questions and lead the discussion.
As a bonus, we will also look at Norm and Nikki’s rainwater collection system and how precious rainwater that generally runs off our roofs into the roadside ditches can be preserved for use in our gardens when we are desperate for water during the summer months.
