Thanks to everyone who came to the party!
We had a lot of fun and together raised over $20,000 dollars.
Thanks very much for everyone who, came, volunteered and or donated.
This event is now over.
It's an extra special occasion this year:
Elizabeth is turning 65, and running for re-election.
Elizabeth May is a person true to herself and her beliefs, she dares to take on the largest challenges not for her own benefit, but for all of us. As she says,
"For the last eight years it has been an honour to work for you. It is the community spirit of our area that inspires and encourages me to be the best MP I can be."
—Elizabeth May, April 2019
So we threw a '65 and not retiring' Birthday Bash and important fundraiser for her upcoming re-election campaign.
Why we asked you to help:
For the first time in Canadian Green history, we're seeking to re-elect Canada's hardest working MP again. By this time there's a tendency for folks to think that Elizabeth is a 'shoe-in' and that this campaign will be a guaranteed win for her.
But what I know is that this year the Liberals and Conservatives especially are committed to putting up a strong opposition. It's hard for us to believe that someone could be a better MP for SGI than Elizabeth. But their message will be that, as a party leader and an MP from such a small party, she just can't deliver for SGI the way a Liberal or a Conservative could.
We can't take anything for granted. Your financial support will make or break our ability to organize the huge team of volunteers to, purchase lawn signs, and pay for office space, crucial hubs for volunteer engagement.
Canada needs the kind of bold climate leadership that only Elizabeth brings—it's up to us to ensure she returns to Parliament with resounding support.
