Defend Our Rights and Freedoms

The Harper Conservatives introduced a new anti-terrorism bill that is invasive, overreaching and dangerously vague. Acts of terrorism are a threat that must be addressed, but C-51 is not primarily an anti-terrorism law. We already have anti-terror laws.

See Elizabeth's press release: “The words found under the definition of ‘activities,’ which affect the ‘security of Canadians,’ are so broad that this can apply to almost any activity, including nonviolent civil disobedience. This could treat peaceful protesters as potential terrorists.”

Toronto Star Green Party Leader Elizabeth May is "the only opposition MP with enough guts to critique the content of the Conservative government’s new anti-terror bill".

Green MPs continue to defend civil liberties in the House of Commons.  Stand with Elizabeth May today — add your name.

Tell your MP that sacrificing individual rights and freedoms is not the solution to the threat of terrorism.

Freedom of speech is part of our “Canadian way” of life. Bill C 51 would disallow freedom of speech. It would make Canadians into strangers to what the Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects as fundamental democratic principles by which we have lived since long before we felt it necessary TO have the Charter. We Canadians do not ‘buy’ the current government’s seeming belief that we need protection from terrorism. We already have as much legal and legislated ‘protection’ as we need. I say “NO” to Bill C 51. It is a travesty.

We should not trust the Conservatives, or any future government, to use the broad powers of Bill C-51 only as the authors have suggested the powers will be used. The vague mandate of addressing “threats to security” can easily be twisted into the legalization of oppression or toward the outright criminalization of political dissent.

Thank you Elizabeth for defending Canadian values. Your voice is a voice of reason and conviction, far more so than that of Mr. Harper and the conservative party today. Your voice needs to be heard!

Do you think Harper could go as far as a FALSE FLAG ATTACK , to make terror more real to Canadians, To your knowledge, is there a probability, that a false flag attack has occurred and where?
